The one thing I know that is missing from the source code that we provide is the Smacker library from RAD Tools. It is theoretically possible to hack the executable to replace the existing code - the source code helps to understand the structure of the code, so it is easier to reverse engineer things - but that is still going to require a fair amount of effort :) It also seems like part of the music code might be in one of those missing libraries, but I haven't checked if it actually makes use of it. Well noticed! GOG, please have a look at Pidgeot's remarks. (There are 3 such APIs in my experience, only the highest-level API, MCI, is affected). Pidgeot: That *particular* issue is because the MIDI synthesizer that Windows uses has a crazy long startup time when using the high-level MIDI API in modern Windows versions. This, however, requires modifying the source code, and unfortunately, the source code included here is not complete it refers to some libraries which are not included, so it is not really possible to make a custom build. the stream-based API, which does not exhibit this issue. The other, more reliable option, is to switch MIDI APIs, to e.g. One option is therefore to tell Windows to use a different MIDI synth by default - but googling suggests this has been removed in Windows 8, and even so, it would have to be up to each user to do so. That *particular* issue is because the MIDI synthesizer that Windows uses has a crazy long startup time when using the high-level MIDI API in modern Windows versions. So I dont know what you were expecting.Zeffyr: Small lags (2-3 secs) happened to me few times, between MIDI tracks - one ended, the second one was about to start and game froze. Lol? I at least expected a serious marketplace like steam to qualitycheck the product before release onto their marketplace? And maybe I had a small glimpse of hope that some of the developers steam have in hire would try to fix some of the bugs or at least make the game more compatible with newer windows versions before making people buy a buggy and incompatible final release of a game. Right back from then in 1998 the game will crash at unexpected times(specially music changing times) and will slow down at times, make sure to save frequently The original devs of the game are long gone There are some hard limits the game engine had then, i doubt anyone can fix the engine issues. lol were you expecting something different ? this is not a hd re-release or something the game was released back in 1998 they just released it here now. Strange the game has not been tested before release. I sure hope thats not also a problem with this game. I have also experienced that the game suddenly stops and exits from previous iterations (not Steam-version, yet). Looks like there is some kind of trouble with compatibility. Ursprünglich geschrieben von TundraStar:Hi! I bought this game yesterday but just like you guys are disqussing its running extremely slow in the main hall.
